How to give a cat its medicine |

Giving A cat medicineTablets The best way to give a cat tablets is to ask someone else to help. Its much easier if the cat or tablet escapes to have someone there to help, and it means you have help dressing your wounds. Some cats behave and accept tablets quite easily. You are best sitting down and holding the cat on your lap under your arm but so you can use your hand to hold the mouth open. Sounds complicated? It is the first time you try it. But holding the cat firmly with one arm means you can put the tablet down into the mouth with the other and then close the mouth and stroke underneath. Some people like to wrap the cat in a towel or blanket to prevent excessive clawing. Gloves tend to make your clumsier with the cat. Holding the cat's mouth open from behind the head with a thumb and finger in at each side. You can mix powders up in a little liquid (milk if your cat likes this) and use either an eyedropper or one of those child medicine syringes to administer it. Some people reckon on hidingh tablets in food but I think most cats will manage to avoid eating the tablet. Of course tablets which get spit out with almost certainly gather fluff and dust. In some cases this will encourage the cat to eat it.
Ear drops - get the cat relaxed on your lap lay on side. Eye drops. Hold cat firmly to avoid squirting cream all over its face. You may like to wrap cat again to avoid it squirming. If you can be calm and relaxed when treating your cat it will help the cat be relaxed too. Treat your cat after giving medicine. |
