| Urinary tract disease is associated with the build-up of crystals and stones in the urinary tract that can cause painful and bloody urination and potential blockage in your dog. One type of crystal that forms in a dog?s urinary tract is called struvite. Prescription Diet c/d was formulated specifically to provide nutritional management of dogs with struvite-related urinary tract disease. Struvite forms in response to urine saturated with magnesium, ammonium and phosphorus, as well as an alkaline (basic) urinary pH. Not recommended for - Cats. - Puppies. - Pregnant or lactating bitches. - Dogs concurrently receiving urinary acidifiers. - Dogs with: non-struvite urolithiasis, hyperlipidaemia or pancreatitis (or a history of, or at risk of, pancreatitis). Additional information - Monitor the urine. - Eliminate urinary tract infection (infection with ureaseproducing organisms will result in a high urinary pH which will compromise efficacy). Other products to consider - To dissolve struvite uroliths: Prescription Diet Canine s/d. (Canine c/d is for long term management after the dissolution or removal of struvite uroliths.) - For obesity-prone dogs: Prescription Diet Canine w/d has similar characteristics to Canine c/d in a low calorie formula. - To control non-struvite uroliths: Prescription Diet Canine u/d |
